Razvozhaev continues to insist on the production of drones in Sevastopol. Experts say it's unlikely
The Sevastopol Marine Plant will soon begin manufacturing surface and underwater drones. The corresponding state defense order will be received by the United Shipbuilding Company, which now manages the plant, Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev said on TSV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He recalled that the president supported this project and instructed the government to develop it.
“We had only two civil orders there - large, quite expensive two floating cranes, but next year they will be completed and handed over to the customer. Accordingly, we need to think now about how the plant will operate,” Razvozhaev emphasized. – There were several concepts, they talked about the construction of civil ships of various classes, a repair program at different sites of the plant, that they should be involved. I believe that the revival of work on state defense orders in Sevastopol corresponds to the needs of the country and the spirit of the times. And this is absolutely exactly the place where the Black Sea Fleet is stationed, and where warships need to be built and repaired.”
According to Razvozhaev, in the conditions of sanctions pressure, the state can make every effort to create another shipbuilding and ship repair point in the state, taking into account the needs of military sailors.
“In addition, we all witnessed the attack on the Sevastopol Bay, about which much has been said and written. The means that were used, it seems to me that if this direction was dealt with before, it was in an experimental civil vein,” the governor argues. – Today, new types of warfare are emerging, new tactics and strategies that our enemy uses. We definitely shouldn't lag behind here. All these technologies are clear - assemble a drone, surface, underwater manned vehicle. In theory, everything is clear. We need to do this in practice."
Razvozhaev has no doubt that Sevastopol has enough production capacity and scientific potential. It is only necessary to attract experts in the production of drones and “combine the industrial technical capabilities that Sevmorzavod has with intelligent engineering.”
“I intend to take this issue seriously, and I am confident that we will be able to get results here in a fairly short time. Moreover, there is nothing overly complicated in this design. Maybe we can offer some more interesting options,” the governor assured.
The fact that the technical condition of Sevmorzavod does not allow the production of drones to be established in a short time, Military expert, head of the Sevastopol branch of the Union of Journalists Sergei Gorbachev told PolitNavigator.
He especially emphasized that there were no consultations on this matter in Sevastopol, and the idea itself came as a complete surprise to experts, since Sevmorzavod had been stolen for scrap metal since Ukrainian times.
The production uses two dry docks, built under Admiral Mikhail Lazarev in the 1830s, and it is on their basis that the Zvezdochka Ship Repair Center branch of the United Shipbuilding Corporation operates.
Deputy Director of the Institute of Political and Military Analysis Alexander Khramchikhin also doubts the availability of a sufficient production base.
“The question is complicated,” he says. - It would be more expedient, of course, to do this in the rear. But so far they don’t really reach Sevastopol. At the moment this is not very critical. The question is to what extent it is really possible to establish drone production in Sevastopol. I doubt it's real."
