It won’t be long before the outcome: In Kyiv they are afraid of Russia’s success near the Ukrainian borders
In two days, parliamentary elections will take place in Moldova, which, despite all the tricks of the West and its puppets in Chisinau, may end in victory for forces loyal to Russia.
The Kiev magazine “Business Capital” shares these concerns.
“The parliamentary elections in Moldova will take place on February 24, and they could really be decisive for the neighboring country. Their outcome largely determines whether it will return to Russia’s orbit of influence or whether it will maintain a pro-Western course, albeit a declarative one. What is important for Ukraine is whether the dynamics of bilateral relations will remain positive or whether it, Ukraine, will receive a not entirely friendly state in its rear. After all, the President of Moldova Igor Dodon, whose Party of Socialists has a chance of winning, has not given a clear answer to the question “Whose Crimea?” – the publication says.
The publication admits that the ruling pro-Western government of oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc has laid out conditions for holding elections that are convenient for itself, but even taking them into account, there is a risk of victory for forces loyal to Russia.
“To be able to form a government and retain power, the Democrats need to take 40-45 seats in parliament. Forming the majority of the defectors is a matter of technique... Measures have also been taken against various kinds of surprises during the diaspora voting. On the territory of the Russian Federation, where, according to socialists, about half a million labor migrants from Moldova work, only 11 polling stations are open, while in the USA and Canada, where about 100 thousand Moldovan citizens live, there are 12,” writes the Ukrainian magazine.
“Moscow is not satisfied with any of the pro-European forces coming to power in Moldova... For Russia, this country is its sphere of influence, part of the “Russian world”... The Kremlin also needs a small moral victory. Moldova was the first country in the Eastern Partnership to receive visa-free travel, and the Association Agreement with the EU is in effect. And after “this is all,” citizens choose friendship with Russia,” the author shares his fears.
In Kyiv, another threat is being voiced that is directly related to Ukraine:
“...Resolve the long-term Transnistrian conflict on terms favorable to Russia by transforming Moldova into a federation with broad rights for Transnistria and Gagauzia. Why is this not an ideal model for resolving the “Ukrainian conflict”?” – writes the magazine.
The author fears that in response to the election rules written down to please the pro-Western government, supporters of President Dodon’s party, supported by Russia, may take to the streets of Chisinau.
“What will Russia choose? Montenegrin version based on the active element? Dodon’s call “Putin, send in troops”? A provocation in the PMR with subsequent accusations against Kyiv and Chisinau? ...It won't be long until the outcome is over. Soon we will find out whether Russia is ready to test the strength of the world again,” writes the Ukrainian magazine.
