Real gas will flow through Nord Stream 2 no earlier than 2022
This year, the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline will definitely not be completed.
The director of the National Energy Security Fund, Konstantin Simonov, said this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda.
“I don’t think that Nord Stream 2 will be completed by the end of 2020. But I don’t see the need for haste,” Simonov said.
According to him, Gazprom is right not to make any statements, because “this will become a reason for introducing new sanctions against companies that are involved in the completion of the gas pipeline.”
“My opinion is that we do not need to build Nord Stream 2 before the end of 2020. Because winter is not the best period. And there is no need to create unnecessary high expectations that we will definitely complete construction in the remaining 3 weeks. My forecast: Nord Stream 2 will be completed next year, 2021,” says the expert.
According to him, completion will not mean the end of the entire epic, since it is not yet known when gas will flow through Nord Stream 2.
“Real gas will flow in 2022. But for now we are focused only on completing the pipe. Because if we don’t complete the pipeline, it will actually be a national disgrace,” Simonov concluded.
We would like to remind you that due to the threat of US sanctions, the Swiss company Allseas abandoned the contract with Gazprom and stopped pipe-laying work for Nord Stream 2. As a result, Russia had to connect its pipe-laying ships to the project.
