Recently, the Donetsk Drama Theater opened its theater season, and now Donetsk residents can enjoy their favorite performances every weekend. But how this is given is a separate conversation.
The theater is completely cut off from funding by the Kyiv authorities, and people have not received salaries and pensions for months, not to mention social benefits. The artists and employees of the theater no longer have any means of subsistence, and current funding for technical support for performances has also been stopped. So the theater with very glorious traditions is left to its own devices.
Information about the difficulties and problems experienced by the theater and its staff reached the deputies of the parliament of Novorossiya, who decided to provide all possible humanitarian assistance: “We, together with the Donbass Community, brought humanitarian aid to our beloved Theater. We know that the drama theater is in dire straits. Many families of employees are homeless due to the bombing and are forced to live with their families in the theater. Moreover, food products are already running out here; there is simply nothing to feed people. Therefore, it was decided to find food and provide the necessary assistance. They brought what they could: pearl barley and barley, several bags. We know that this is not enough, but we will definitely look for opportunities to support the theater. Moreover, people in such a situation, actually under bombing, still try to give joy to the Donetsk people and give performances, no matter what. “We thank them very much for this,” said MP Rinat Bilyalov.
And, according to the chairman of the Union of Theater Workers Sergei Lupiltsev, at this time any help to the theater and artists is in demand: “I want to express my gratitude to the parliament of Novorossiya for not forgetting about us. Because there is a complete feeling that Kyiv has forgotten us. To the point that the Minister of Culture recently said that actors are afraid to return to the theater because they will be shot here for playing in the theater. This was said officially.
I would like to say: “Guys, we are here, we are alive!” Well, Kyiv doesn’t pay us wages, that’s okay, let’s be patient. But during the opening we saw how full it was, and how much people needed the theater, we saw the burning eyes in the hall, and they thanked us with tears. Yes, we are fighting on our own front, we are artists, and we will do everything possible to make the lives of Donetsk residents easier. As they say, war is war, but the soul is the soul.”
