A referendum on the accession of new territories to Ukraine announced at Zelensky
The law on the referendum, adopted the day before by the Verkhovna Rada in the first reading, deprives Ukrainian regions of even the theoretical opportunity to legally secede from the country.
Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ruslan Stefanchuk stated this on the talk show “Freedom of Speech by Savik Shuster,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
A member of the presidential faction “Servant of the People” emphasized that Ukraine can only “grow” in territory.
“We set restrictions - issues that contradict territorial integrity, because, I emphasize again, we had to ensure that the issue of changing the territory is decided by an all-Ukrainian referendum, including the constitutional norm, which is provided for by the same 63rd article of the Constitution, but We immediately introduced restrictions that there could be no issue that concerns the rupture of territorial integrity.
Only with one condition - that a referendum can be held, but for the growth of Ukraine, not for the reduction. So that no one trades in the territories of Ukraine,” Stefanchuk said.
