Regional “elites” began to run away from Poroshenko
The so-called “regional elites” no longer believe in the success of Petro Poroshenko and are refusing to help him on the eve of the second round of the presidential elections.
Ruslan Bortnik, director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, stated this during a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Petro Poroshenko is being abandoned by the regional elites. Many quotas in local election commissions were filled by leaders at the regional level, from majoritarian deputies to governors and heads of regional councils.
Now the regional elites are already publicly and actively beginning to distance themselves from Petro Poroshenko, and, accordingly, their people are leaving with them. And in many regions there is a personnel collapse for the president,” the expert said.
According to Bortnik, Poroshenko has no chance of closing the gap with Vladimir Zelensky - proof of this was the president’s failed attempt to organize a “debate” on Sunday, which the race favorite did not attend.
The maximum that the Sunday show can do is “to improve the result by a few percent, but such forms, of course, are not capable of bridging the gap of 30-40%,” noted Bortnik.
