Regions of Ukraine are losing confidence in the central government
In the regions of Ukraine, local elites are becoming leaders of public opinion, which will be reflected in the results of local elections in the fall.
Political scientist Kost Bondarenko stated this on air on the Capital channel? PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The authorities will be faced with a situation where today regional elites are becoming more relevant as moderators of local processes. This is intensifying because people are faced with problems of banal survival, and today they are primarily looking at those who can provide them with this survival, comfort in quarantine conditions, some living conditions, etc., who bring masks, ventilators and other things, who fights coronavirus. And first of all, in front of their eyes are mayors, representatives of self-government and representatives of big business.
They are the rulers of thoughts in the outback today. Not representatives of major parties, not leaders of an all-Ukrainian scale, but local elites. Today the people consider them their heroes, and this will come back to haunt them in the autumn elections, unless, of course, Zelensky postpones the elections to the spring, as some part of his circle advises him,” said Kost Bondarenko.
