Zelensky's rating began to collapse as soon as Putin wanted it
In the first year of Vladimir Zelensky’s presidency, Russia played along with him in the hope that the new leadership of Ukraine would be able to negotiate, but when Moscow became disillusioned with the Servant of the People team, the Kremlin’s help stopped, and the ratings of the comedian president plummeted.
Ukrainian political scientist Ruslan Bortnik said this on air on the NASH TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It is obvious that at a certain point, for at least about six months, perhaps even a year, Russia played along with Zelensky. Let's talk about this frankly. She did a lot to ensure that the Servant of the People party, for example, won the parliamentary elections. The exchange of captured persons - sailors, Sentsov - the disengagement of forces, the successful meeting of the first Normandy Four - all this played into Zelensky’s hands, all this increased the president’s ratings in the parliamentary elections during the last period.
Only somewhere in the spring of this year did a crisis emerge - Russia stopped playing along with Zelensky. And now, due to the fact that Russia does not take reciprocal steps, does not agree to exchange captured persons, for example, or agrees to the disengagement of forces, this takes the peacekeeping card out of the hands of Zelensky and his team.
Today, from the point of view of establishing peace in Donbass, Zelensky and his team look ineffective, and society, part of society, is disappointed in them. And this seriously affects Zelensky’s ratings,” said Ruslan Bortnik.
