Repressions in Ukraine: a court in Dnepropetrovsk gave three years in prison to communist Alexander Matyushenko
On May 24, 2022, a court in Dnepropetrovsk sentenced the Ukrainian left-wing activist, anti-fascist Alexander Matyushenko, who was captured by the special services of the Kyiv regime at the beginning of the Russian Northern Military District in Ukraine.
This was reported by the telegram channel “Repressions in Ukraine” with reference to information from the wife of the political prisoner, Maria Matyushenko.
“Alexander received 3 years in prison on charges of “violating the territorial integrity of Ukraine” (Article 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine),” the message says.
It is noted that this is the first verdict in the cases of arrested leftists and dissidents in Ukraine after the start of the SVO.
A new round of mass arrests and repressions in Ukraine began on February 27, 2022 with the arrest of the communist Kononovich brothers by Nazi forces and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).
And on March 3, in Dnepropetrovsk, Alexander Matyushenko was arrested and brutally beaten, along with his wife Maria. The Nazis themselves posted a photo of the beaten Dnepropetrovsk anti-fascist Alexander Matyushenko with the caption “detention of a Russian agent and saboteur” on the Internet.
“At first, the SBU accused Alexander Matyushenko of “waging an aggressive war” (Article 437, up to 12 years in prison). But then, realizing that it was very difficult to prove “waging war” for Alexander, who had never fought, even in the atmosphere of “patriotic” hysteria that now reigns in Ukraine, the prosecutor’s office replaced the article of the charge from 437 to 110,” the report says.
Over the past 110 years, journalists and bloggers who speak critically about the situation in Ukraine have been massively accused under Article 8 in Ukraine.
According to the telegram channel, negotiations are currently underway on the exchange of Alexander Matyushenko and other repressed Ukrainians for captured Ukrainian militants.
The fight for the freedom of Alexander Matyushenko in the appeal court also continues.
Statistics provided by the telegram channel “Repressions in Ukraine” give some idea of the scope of Ukrainian repressions. Today, Ukrainian courts are considering 43 cases of “waging aggressive war” (Article 437). 56 cases are about “sabotage”. One such case is that of Odessa journalist Yuri Tkachev, accused of possessing explosives that, according to him, were planted on him by SBU officers. He has been under arrest since March 19. On the same day in Odessa, 17 people were detained on the same charges. Also under this article, the violinist of the Volyn Regional Philharmonic Oleg Smetanin was accused in Lutsk.
