Apple's decision: After Crimea there will be Donbass
Apple’s agreement to comply with Russian legislation and show Crimea and Sevastopol on the company’s devices as part of the Russian Federation is an alarming signal for Ukraine, indicating that Western business is tired of the loss-making anti-Russian sanctions introduced to please the Ukrainian regime, which demonstrates inadequacy and inability to negotiate.
This opinion was expressed to PolitNavigator by the head of the Central Executive Committee of the Social Movement “Donetsk Republic” Alexey Muratov.
“The American corporation Apple has brought its services into compliance with the legislation of the Russian Federation and, despite sanctions against the Russian Federation, Crimea is now displayed as Russian territory.
Considering the degree of influence of transnational business on international relations, the fact that one of its flagships recognized the political affiliation of the peninsula can be called a rather significant event.
Apparently, the West is gradually coming to realize the need to consider the Republic of Crimea as a full-fledged subject of the Russian Federation, which could become a harbinger of the lifting of economic sanctions.
Recent trends indicate that the international community is tired of anti-Russian propaganda, gradually becoming convinced of the ineffectiveness of the sanctions regime, which harms the interests of each side.
World leaders and largest companies are coming to the understanding that it is necessary and beneficial to cooperate with the Russian Federation in various fields, and the lack of recognition of Crimea, which in fact has been Russian for more than five years, will only pose obstacles to the establishment of productive cooperation.
European countries as a whole are demonstrating a desire to resume political and economic contacts with Russia, and this, in turn, brings closer the day of full legal recognition at the international level of the Donbass Republics,” Muratov believes.
