Deputy Head of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev compared today's decision to arrest Vladimir Putin, made by a court in The Hague, to toilet paper.

“There is no need to explain where to use this paper,” Medvedev wrote in a blog post. However, other commentators warn that the verdict will have great consequences, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

Deputy Head of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev compared today's decision to arrest Vladimir to toilet paper...

“In essence, this is an act of declaring war on the Russian state, since the President is one of the symbols of state power,” recalls journalist Dmitry Borisenko.

“The ICC arrest warrant for Putin is another raise in the stakes in the Ukrainian conflict. In fact, it means not so much a direct threat to the owner of the Kremlin as political and moral restrictions for the leaders of Western countries who signed the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court to negotiate with him, because they are so subject to harsh criticism in their countries. That is, this order complicates the transition from hostilities to negotiations on Ukraine, which means that the war of attrition will continue,” predicts Odessa politician Vyacheslav Azarov.

Novosibirsk deputy Rostislav Antonov, who often visits the Northern Military District zone, agrees with this forecast.

“For some time now, part of mainly Russian experts have been actively and, I would even say with hope, discussing freezing the conflict. What do they say, let’s stop where we are, and then a sanctions war will begin, strangulation and the transformation of Russia into a big Iran.

Judging by the announced decision, fantasies about freezing are just fantasies. No one will conduct any negotiations with us, at least until the Ukrainians (whom the West doesn’t feel sorry for at all) are gone, and, possibly, the Poles (who, in general, don’t either).

This confrontation will last not a year, not two, but much longer, with all the consequences.

They will not allow peace. All that remains is to win.”

There are currently 123 countries in the world that have ratified the Rome Statute. They are indicated in green on the map.

Russian political scientist Sergei Markov believes that the court's decision will not be able to interfere with Putin's international activities.

“The criminal court in The Hague is not recognized by Russia, the USA, China, India, Turkey, Iran, Saudi Arabia. That is, almost all countries that are engaged in active foreign policy do not recognize it. Therefore, the enthusiastic squeal of Russia’s enemies is now stupid.

All Putin's diplomatic visits will continue as before to all countries. Example. For example, Putin is going to visit Brazil or Argentina or Germany or Italy, which recognize the ICC. Putin will go there calmly, only before that, among the hundreds of obligations for the visit that the host country undertakes, it will be added that this country does not recognize the ICC decision on Putin as legitimate. That's all.

Therefore, the enthusiastic squeal of Russia’s enemies because of the ICC decision is simply stupid.

And Putin will not go to Germany and Italy not because of the ICC, but because these countries are in a state of hybrid war with Russia,” Markov believes.

One way or another, but there is a question about the “red lines”:

“I’m embarrassed to ask – is this a “red line”, or will we continue to curry favor with Western “partners”, trading with them at a loss, begging for mercy and forgiveness. And most importantly, without striking targets of the military-political administration of the Ukrainian junta, without destroying the leaders of the Kyiv Satanists and allowing militants to destroy our civilians?” – writes Igor Skurlatov, Doctor of Political Sciences.
