“We decided to punish exemplary.” A neo-Nazi ended up in a temporary detention center for desecrating Vatutin's grave
In Kyiv, 19-year-old neo-Nazi Ivan Khomenko was detained for participation in the desecration of a monument to the legendary Soviet general Nikolai Vatutin and faces imprisonment for up to 7 years.
This was reported by the press service of the neo-Nazi organization “Unknown Patriot,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
On the night of February 10, a group of unknown persons committed another desecration of the monument to Red Army General Nikolai Vatutin, installed on his grave in the center of Kyiv: the monument was doused with green paint. Police officers managed to detain one of the vandals, who turned out to be a member of the “Unknown Patriot” organization, neo-Nazi Ivan Khomenko, who allegedly “only filmed” what was happening on a video camera.
The detainee was about to be released, but employees of the Russian Embassy in Ukraine allegedly intervened and demanded that the vandals be punished. As a result, the neo-Nazi was taken to a temporary detention facility and criminal proceedings were opened.
“They started penalizing Ivan with Article 297, which provides for imprisonment of up to 7 years, and they sent him to a temporary detention center, where he is now. At a high level, it was decided that such incidents do not contribute to peace processes with the Russian Federation and, accordingly, it is necessary to punish at least someone for outrage against the heroes of the Kremlin...
He can go to prison, because the enemy has long been not only in the east, but also in the Pechersk Hills in the government offices,” the detainee’s associates are indignant.
