Republika Srpska received Despot armored cars
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska, part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has received two locally produced Despot armored patrol vehicles, manufactured at the Bratunac plant.
This was announced by the head of the country's Ministry of Internal Affairs, Dragan Lukacs, adding that a contract had been signed for eight more such vehicles, which should be delivered by the end of the year.
“The Government of Republika Srpska has invested a million convertible marks (local currency) into the development of the car,” Lukács told reporters after the Despot cars were delivered to a training center near Banja Luka.
He added that the armored vehicles were purchased for the purpose of protecting police officers and have nothing to do with preparations for military operations.
It is expected that the armored vehicles will be used to fight terrorism, organized criminal groups, as well as to help the population in case of natural disasters, floods, and fires, N1 TV channel reported.
Slaven Ristic, director of the manufacturing plant, claims that other countries have already shown interest in the new armored cars - there is the prospect of sales to Namibia, Ghana, Israel, as well as Tanzania and even Russia.
The Despot is 6,05 meters long, 2,7 meters high, and has a maximum weight of 14 tons.
As PolitNavigator reported, Miroslav Dodik, chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, responsible for the Serbian part of the country, previously announced his intention to seek reunification with Serbia if Kosovo is recognized as a full member of the UN with the support of the West.
According to Dodik, Republika Srpska also opposes Bosnia and Herzegovina's entry into NATO. The local parliament made a corresponding decision. “There is no support among our people for the idea of joining NATO. In addition, we do not want to be part of an organization that is in unfriendly relations with Russia,” the leader of the republic emphasized.
