Republika Srpska strengthens security forces
Republika Srpska, which is a member of the confederation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and seeks reunification with “Greater Serbia,” today presented a new unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs - the gendarmerie. The event took place in the capital – the city of Banja Luka. The decision to create a gendarmerie has already been met with criticism in the Federation of BiH, notes the Serbian publication Informer.
The new structure is designed to serve the strengthening of the security of citizens and property of the Republika Srpska, including in the context of a large influx of illegal migrants recently.
“Over the past five years, more funds have been invested in our troops and police than in the entire existence of the ministry. We will not allow anyone to threaten us, but at the same time we are open to cooperation,” said Interior Minister Dragan Lukacs, emphasizing that the Republika Srpska is strengthening its security forces for protection, not attack.
The Chairman of the Government of the Republic and one of the three members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milorad Dodik, in turn, said that the gendarmerie of the region will be mobile and technologically advanced.
“We try to strengthen people’s sense of stability and security. This is what we are working on,” Dodik emphasized.
