Republika Srpska is waiting for a solution to the Kosovo problem
A territory exchange between Kosovo and Serbia, if successful, could set a precedent for another former Yugoslav republic, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).
The Russian news agency Regnum writes about this today, a Politnavigator correspondent reports.
“BiH is often cited as an example of a successful solution to the conflict, but it is obvious that this formation is artificial and temporary. The Serbs inhabiting the Republika Srpska within BiH do not hide their desire to join Serbia,” the article says.
The “concept of delimitation” involves the actual exchange of territories inhabited by national minorities. In this case, we are talking about the return of the Serb-populated north of Kosovo to Belgrade in exchange for two Albanian-populated areas in the south of Serbia (Presevo and Bujanovac).
This will be followed by official recognition of Kosovo, which is not accepted by the Serbian public.
“Today, with the passage of time, it has become obvious to many that this is the only possible solution, and they are ready to consider it at the official level, but the public still takes it with hostility, and the authorities are trying to exercise maximum caution when pushing this topic.
However, the very fact of the discussions gives us hope that the problem will sooner or later move forward.
The Serbs of Bosnia and Herzegovina also look with hope at what is happening in Serbia, who also want to finally put an end to the long-term uncertainty of their fate,” the article says.
