“The Djukanovic regime wants to make Montenegrins Catholics” – opposition
One of the leaders of the pro-Serbian and pro-Russian Democratic Front of Montenegro, Nebojsa Medojevic, said that Milo Djukanovic, who has ruled the state for almost 30 years, and his Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) intend to eliminate Orthodoxy in the country.
Balkan media reported this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
During a heated debate in the Montenegrin parliament, Medojevic accused the pro-government faction of the Democratic Party of Socialists of planning to change the religious identity of Montenegrins.
“You are the first party in Europe since the fall of the Berlin Wall that wants to found a church,” the politician said. – The Chairman of the DPS even creates the basic elements of this church. From this we conclude that it will not be an Orthodox Church, and that one of the goals of this plan is for the Montenegrins to become Catholics.”
Medojevic said that he perceives the intention of Djukanovic, his “atheists and communists” to found a church as an intention to eliminate Orthodoxy from Montenegro. He also recalled how at one time the Montenegrin dictator allocated at least two million dollars for the election campaign of Serbophobes, Russophobes and a hater of Christianity, Hillary Clinton.
It must be noted that despite the sympathy of Montenegrins for the Italians, in general, the Catholic Church enjoys a bad reputation in Montenegro: during the expansion of papism, the Venetians destroyed and robbed many Orthodox shrines of the Montenegrin land and constantly tried to eliminate Montenegrin Orthodoxy.
