The Kosovo regime continues to build its army with NATO support
In the Serbian autonomous region of Kosovo and Metohija, Albanian separatists, who, with the support of the West, unilaterally proclaimed the “Republic of Kosovo,” continue to form their own army, although this is expressly prohibited by the UN Security Council.
This was reported by the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ), a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
In the article “The Army That Should Not Be Called That,” the newspaper noted that without unnecessary publicity, the American contingent based at the Bondsteel base, military personnel of the Bundeswehr and most NATO countries are helping the authorities in Pristina form a full-fledged army, which is formally called the “Kosovo Security Forces.”
The process is proceeding despite the fact that such actions contradict UN Security Council Resolution 1244 (1999), according to which Kosovo and Metohija is part of Serbia, and the Ahtisaari Comprehensive Plan on the Status of Kosovo (2007).
The reason why NATO is hiding its participation in the creation of the Kosovo army, according to the newspaper, lies in the fact that, according to the Ahtisaari plan, the so-called “Republic of Kosovo” should not have an army, but a “multi-ethnic security force” with a maximum strength of 2500 people, which can be used in the event of natural disasters.
It is worth noting that the Kosovo Security Forces were created in 2009 on the basis of units of the terrorist organization Kosovo Liberation Army. In 2018, all Serbs were expelled from this armed formation.
According to FAZ, “the Bundeswehr plays a leading role” in the process of creating the “army of the Republic of Kosovo.”
“In 2018, the German military deployed more than 40 Wolf-type all-terrain vehicles to Kosovo, including maintenance workshops, as a “visible expression of the excellent relationship between the Bundeswehr and the Kosovo Security Forces.” Within ten years, the formation of units should be completed. At the same time, at informal negotiations in Berlin it is not disputed that, according to Ahtisaari’s plan, there should actually be no army in Kosovo. “That’s why we don’t talk about it,” NATO says about its role in building the Kosovo army.
Pristina confirmed to the newspaper that the Bundeswehr is conducting training in logistics, mine clearance and military police operations. A German brigadier general advises the Kosovo Albanians in the process of forming the Ministry of Defense.
“In other NATO member armies, Kosovo officers are also frequent participants in courses and exercises. In 2021, more than 300 Kosovo troops participated in the major maneuvers Defender Europe 21, which were coordinated by the United States. In building the Kosovo army, along with the Americans and Germans, Great Britain and Turkey stand out,” writes Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
As PolitNavigator reported, on October 18, at a UN Security Council meeting dedicated to the Kosovo problem, representatives of Serbia and Russia called what was happening in Kosovo and Metohija “ethnic cleansing of the Serbs.”
