“Putin’s regime only strengthened after the start of the special operation” – Ukrainian political scientist
After the start of the Russian special operation to denazify Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin only strengthened his position in society.
Ukrainian political expert Konstantin Matvienko stated this during a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Russians needed to demonstrate that they remained a superpower, to show the world that they had military power. If there is military power, then there is social and economic power. There was a need to strengthen Putin's internal regime. He needed to show that he holds all the power scales in his hands and is capable of carrying out such operations,” said the Ukrainian expert.
At the same time, he acknowledged that Putin has gained strong support among the population.
“Yes, Putin’s regime has strengthened. We see this from research, this also applies to research conducted in Russia itself and from indirect data from international research organizations. The Putin regime has now achieved quite powerful support. The level of his support is now higher than before the start of the special operation. Due to the pandemic and the economic recession, then Putin was treated much more coolly,” Mironenko added.
