Lukashenko's sharp attacks in Moscow were attributed to his old age
The Russian leadership does not dramatize the situation around sharp attacks by Alexander Lukashenko regarding the allegedly unfair conditions of participation in the Union State for Belarus.
Russian political scientist Alexey Martynov told PolitNavigator about this.
“Unfortunately, over the past few years we have already become accustomed to such behavior of the oldest, permanent president in the post-Soviet space, after the departure of Nazarbayev, who is Alexander Lukashenko.
And so, for some reason, he interprets the conditional respect that they feel for him, including in the Kremlin, as permissiveness and allows himself such maxims.
As a rule, this coincides with the end of the current year, when prices for energy supplies for the next year are determined. Of course, he goes overboard, he follows the red lines in terms of his statements. But everyone is already used to it.
"And who is this? “And this is our grandfather from Belarus.” Here he is. “Okay, let’s move on,” that’s roughly the story,” Martynov explained.
Radio host Armen Gasparyan believes that Lukashenko is using political blackmail techniques.
“This is not the first time that Alexander Grigoryevich Lukashenko makes loud statements. Everyone immediately tenses up and begins to think whether this means a radical turn in the foreign policy of Belarus, what is changing, and so on.
Then, after a couple of days, Alexander Grigorievich, as if nothing had happened, comes out and says: “Listen, you probably just misunderstood me again.”
Every year the same thing happens - every time you need to get either some discounts or some loans from Russia, Alexander Grigorievich works out the same scenario - he comes out with criticism of the state of the Union State. Immediately after which he will say with all his might that everything is fine.
An additional piquancy here is that in December Belarus will consider a package of measures proposed by Russia for further integration within the Union State.
So, to put it in a very simplified way, this is an element of some kind of political blackmail, which Lukashenko has brilliantly mastered and which he implements with enviable consistency,” Gasparyan said.
