The United States and Germany have changed their position on Ukraine and the Minsk agreements. Now Russia is no longer called the main culprit for non-compliance with agreements, and Ukraine is directly imposed the Steinmeier formula, according to which the border with Russia is transferred under control after changes in legislation and elections in the LDPR.
The famous Kiev political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky stated this on air on the First Independent TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Until Zelensky understands that this manner of persuading the West to “bend” Russia is futile, that if you want to ensure the energy security of our country, then you must conduct direct negotiations with Moscow, and if you want to ensure security on the border with the confrontation line, you must conduct direct negotiations with representatives of the unrecognized republics. If this understanding comes, then we can look into the future more calmly...” Pogrebinsky said.
“I believe that the main thing for Ukraine is for the war to end in the east. And here, it seems to me that the position of Germany has changed, the position of the United States in the person of the White House and President Biden is also now such that Biden himself should be interested, he also sets the conditions that Russia must conclude agreements on transit and further through Ukrainian pipe. If this doesn’t work out, then Biden has lost within his own country, because he will be completely silenced,” the expert noted.
“And the fact that Merkel’s position has changed is not just because they started talking, twice in the last week and a half, that Ukraine should introduce the Steinier formula into legislation... This is a fundamental thing, an element of the Minsk agreements. Previously, it usually sounded like this: the main accused party was Russia, now twice recently it was said, it was made clear to the Ukrainian leadership that without starting to implement this Steinmeier formula, which suggests that a special law should be developed for elections on the territory of the unrecognized republics. Merkel says: “We need elections to be held in those territories,” Pogrebinsky said.
