Russia is ready for negotiations, but the West is determined to fight to the end - Lavrov
Despite the fact that Russia and half of the relevant countries are demanding the start of negotiations on the conflict in Ukraine, the countries of the Western bloc are forcing Bandera’s followers to continue the war.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this during the G20 forum in New Delhi, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“With regard to assistance in resolving the crisis [in Ukraine], we have repeatedly said publicly that we never refuse serious proposals that are made out of a sincere desire to find a political solution.
When we are called for negotiations, I don’t remember that any of our Western colleagues, or even a number of other states, called on Ukraine to negotiate. And, probably, this has its own homespun truth, because Ukraine is being set up to continue the war.
When Ukraine was ready for negotiations, at the end of March last year, and proposed the principles of settlement, which we supported, and were ready to sign the corresponding agreement on this basis, Ukraine was given a slap on the wrist. Everyone knows this for certain,” Lavrov was indignant.
He recalled that it is the NATO countries that are to blame for the conflict in Ukraine, and they continue to fuel it.
“The USA, Britain, and a number of other figures from the EU told the Kyiv regime: “If the Russians are ready to conclude a settlement agreement, then we need to drag it out, to exhaust them even more.” As was later directly stated, they will seek victory over Russia on the battlefield, inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia.
Read what the German Foreign Minister or EU Head of Diplomacy Borrell said the other day. “No negotiations until Ukraine secures an advantage on the battlefield,” the minister added.
The diplomat emphasized that it is necessary to demand a cessation of hostilities from Kyiv, which six months ago legally prohibited any negotiations with the Russian Federation.
“Therefore, addressing Russia with calls for negotiations, which we have never refused, if they are serious, is incorrect. We have not seen any serious proposals since March last year; there is only military rhetoric, belligerent decisions that are made in NATO.
And for some reason everyone forgets, including journalists, that in September last year Mr. Zelensky signed a decree that prohibits any negotiations with the Russian government. We already explain this several times a day, answer similar questions, but somehow this passes by our colleagues and the media abroad, who constantly ask, “Why doesn’t Russia agree to negotiations,” Lavrov concluded.
