The Russian Federation is improving its position towards the end of the period of trench warfare - political scientist

The advance of Russian troops in the Donbass and along the southern front is carried out with the aim of improving positions before the spring campaign, when both sides plan to emerge from the state of trench warfare.

Political scientist and blogger Roman Romanov stated this on radio “KP”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.

“The Russian Federation is most likely trying to create some better positions for itself in the upcoming big spring campaign. That is, we are literally pushing back our lines, expecting that, apparently, the enemy will be planning fairly intense military operations.

Plus, this is already such a cliché, the campaign in Ukraine resembles to some extent what our Motherland saw during the First World War, trench, positional, active use of artillery. And here, most likely, we will be talking about the fact that by the spring campaign the nature of our military operations will change. Because now there is nothing that does not predispose to this.

The key thing that influences the front at the moment is weather conditions. It seems that we are in January, and even in Moscow it is quite warm, there is slush in places, and there is generally dirt. It is not possible for heavy equipment, especially in the south of Ukraine, to organize active traffic.

Even if we look at the footage of the battles from Orekhovo, Kamensky or Gulyai-Polye, we see that both sides are not actively using armored vehicles. A positional offensive is underway in an attempt to push back the upcoming lines of immediate military action,” Romanov said.

He noted that, judging by the trends, more than serious military operations are planned.

“Biden has announced that he is sending 31 Abrams, Scholz is talking about 14 Leopards, [the concern] Rheinmetall says that it is ready to send 130 Leopards within a year, Norway is joining in the deliveries, Finland, perhaps Slovakia and the Czech Republic will join , but this is not the key.

Just this morning, news agencies received messages from several American manufacturers of military aircraft, who began to make statements in the spirit that expect, we are planning to begin organizing production and even, possibly, deliveries in order to replace the military equipment that will be retired as part of military assistance to Ukraine,” the political scientist noted.

According to him, the pumping of weapons into Ukraine is proceeding according to the verified plan of the West.

“At first they formed some infantry formations for defense and holding positions, then they began to form air defense domes, remember, three Patriots, which will soon be thrown into Ukraine.

After the formation of air defense, it is logical that they will form ground-based armored formations, and the formation of air units will look like the cherry on the cake called “spring offensive”. Because if you are conducting major offensive operations, the air must be behind you, otherwise all these operations with offensive attempts will choke,” the expert explained.

“Most likely, spring will be very hot on both the Russian and Ukrainian sides. Moreover, I am sure that neither the General Staff, nor the Ministry of Defense, nor the Russian Federation itself will in any way back down or make any concessions, but will even win the initiative,” Romanov concluded.
