Russia will survive even with the toughest Western sanctions - Kiev diplomat
Over the past seven years, the Russian Federation has built an economic model that sanctions will not bring to its knees.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports this in an interview published by the Kyiv online publication Apostrophe, said Vasily Filipchuk, Chairman of the Board of the International Center for Advanced Studies, ex-Director of the Department of European Integration of the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
He assures that today Russian President Vladimir Putin is “weaker than ever,” although later, when the topic of Western anti-Russian sanctions was raised, he actually refuted himself.
“Let’s put aside the issue of sanctions, because it is important for Russia to show that they don’t care about Western sanctions. If in 2014-2015 there were sanctions from the West that could have brought Russia to its knees - such as disconnecting Russia from SWIFT - now there are virtually no such sanctions left. Over these seven years of conflict, the Russians were able to build a model that can survive even the toughest Western sanctions,” says Filipchuk.
According to him, if the Russians were afraid of sanctions, then “they definitely would not have poisoned Skripal, they would not have poisoned Navalny and the like.”
