Parents of children who have nowhere to study blocked the road near Kiev
About two hundred people blocked the Kyiv-Boyarka highway near the city of Vishnevoye (Kiev region), demanding to provide their children with normal conditions for studying, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The action was organized by an initiative group of residents of Vyshneve who cannot send their children to school.
There is only one school in the southern part of the city, built in 1962. The school is designed for 336 students, but in fact there are 1270 children studying there. As in other suburbs of Kyiv, many new residential buildings have been built in Vyshneve in recent years, but no new schools or new kindergartens are being built. The authorities have promised to expand the existing school since 2008, and even allocated funds for this in the budget, but so far the regional council has not made an appropriate decision.
City residents demand that the regional council hold a session and make a decision to begin construction. To draw attention to their gap, they blocked the road and promise to block the road again if they are not given a date for the session.
People chant “School for the children” and want to walk along the roadway with posters that say “Stop lying, let’s build!”, “Complete our school!”, “Children are out of politics! Complete the school for the children!”, “We demand decent conditions for our children to study!”.
Due to the action, a traffic jam formed on the highway.
