Among the recipients is the leader of the “Sevastopol-Crimea-Russia” movement Valery Podyachiy, who is the main ideologist of the reunification of Crimea with Russia. In 2005, Podyachiy and his associates created the Popular Front “Sevastopol-Crimea-Russia”, which declared as its sole goal the return of Crimea and Sevastopol to the jurisdiction of the Russian Federation. For this, he was condemned by Ukraine for “separatism” and was persecuted by the Ukrainian regime for many years for his political views.
The State Duma is currently considering a bill on the rehabilitation of convicted fighters for Russian Crimea. Prior to this, Sevastopol Governor Sergei Menyailo addressed the State Duma of the Russian Federation with a proposal to amend the law “On the rehabilitation of victims of political repression”, extending its effect to Crimeans who suffered under Ukraine for their pro-Russian beliefs.
