Rosbank accused the client of financing terrorism for purchases in Crimea
The private universal bank Rosbank accused Alexander Malkevich, a member of the Public Chamber of Russia, of “financing terrorism” for paying with a card for purchases in Crimea.
Malkevich himself wrote about this in his TG channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I was here for a couple of days in Crimea. I spent money, paid with a Rosbank card: I ate a couple of times, drank coffee, bought gifts for the children, some household items for the trip, etc. In general, as I now understand, he committed a number of “suspicious transactions” in the opinion of the bank. He was punished for his financial activity in Crimea: he received an SMS from the bank about completely blocking everything. And the card was also blocked. What’s typical is that no one from the bank called me, didn’t ask me anything... they just cut me off from all services. And that’s it!” Malkevich wrote.
He was unable to call the bank to find out the reasons for the blocking, since calls from Crimea cannot be received on the multi-line phone.
“The bottom line is: if you want to spend money in Crimea, being a client (premium!) of Rosbank, keep in mind that you will be punished for this. But that's not all. After I started actively downloading my license, I received a “letter of happiness” from the bank.
It said that the bank employees decided that my expenses fall (!) under the law “On Combating the Legalization (Laundering) of Proceeds from Crime and the Financing of Terrorism,” and therefore I MUST provide the bank with a written explanation of the purposes and the grounds for transactions on the account with copies of supporting documents. With such bankers in the rear you don’t need any enemies...” wrote Malkevich.
