Roshena on stake!
Confusion is how one can characterize the first impression of German military advisers who arrived in the ATO zone. They were even ready to see hungry or half-naked soldiers in slippers, but they did not expect this. Well-armed battalions, on which Kyiv is relying, are ready to overthrow... their president.
The Ukrainian translator working at the mission did not know how to more accurately translate one single phrase: “On the stake!” Difficulties in translation were associated with the military context - it was the headquarters of the Aidar battalion - and the presence of Ukrainian generals, who were also not prepared for the discontent of their officers and soldiers. In general, the translator coped with it, explaining that this is a vivid figurative expression dating back to the times of the Zaporozhye Sich.
Which the knowledgeable Germans unexpectedly disagreed with. They explained that “impaling” is not just a figure of speech, but a quite common tradition of execution for the medieval army. Well, sometimes soldiers are in a bad mood, the president has betrayed them or the general has betrayed them, and so the infantry gets angry. She sits in the trench and warms herself with tea, and the deputy of the battalion has a package straight from America in the form of a brand new Mazda SUV, similar to a spaceship. Where does the money come from? Questions are in order!
In fact, the Germans are shocked. They are ready to bring drones and the latest radio-electronic equipment to Ukraine, but for whom?! For an army dissatisfied with its commander in chief!? Okay, this is acceptable for rich Americans who first sponsor various Bin Ladens and then equip NATO to fight them. However, the Germans cannot afford this, however, with one caveat, if it does not pay off with interest.
So the German advisers started thinking. They wanted to bring drones to wage a modern war against the Donetsk separatists, but in fact the latest reconnaissance vehicles could fly towards Kyiv or, worse, become the subject of a conflict. What will go to the Aidar battalion, what will go to Azov, and what will go to the general’s grandchildren as toys?
The advisers' doubts were fueled by those who escaped from under the Ilovaisk cauldron and who were returned back to the front. These ideological fighters did not have enough tolerance to restrain themselves: “For betrayal at Ilovaisk! For theft and for lying - Roshen and the company are impaled!
Of course, the Germans complied with the regulations, resolving issues of military assistance during the mission, but at the same time they monitored sentiment. And an unpleasant picture for Poroshenko emerged: the ideologically savvy Ukrainian punitive forces want to quickly stabilize the situation in the ATO zone, so that they can then move not even to Crimea, but to Kyiv.
The ATO troops, defeated in the summer of 2014, still want to flood the Donbass with blood, and then take revenge on everyone who made them go crazy and go to war. Whether they can cope with the militias who have learned to fight and the winter cold is a big question, but as for Roshen and the company, they’re on stake... Agree, you just have to snap your fingers.
It looks like the German allies will fulfill their obligations to supply weapons to Ukraine and may even become the argument that, if necessary, will stop the big campaign against Kyiv. However, as history tells us, the Germans flee faster than they advance.
