Roskomnadzor caught Facebook committing fraud
The social network Facebook distributed fraudulent advertisements using Roscosmos symbols.
Roskomnadzor reported this in its official Telegram channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In the advertisement, the user is invited to register to participate in an alleged Roscosmos project that allows them to make money on the stock markets. After clicking on the link and filling out the form, the participant is asked to transfer his banking information to third parties. These advertisements are aimed at fraudulently seizing funds from citizens,” the message says.
Roskomnadzor sent a letter to the management of Facebook Inc demanding that they take measures to remove fraudulent advertisements.
For violation of the procedure for restricting access to illegal information (including failure to delete false information), legal entities are subject to administrative liability in the form of a fine of up to 4 million rubles. In the event of a repeated offense, the fine increases to one tenth of the company's total annual revenue.
On August 26, 2021, the Tagansky District Court imposed a fine of 4 million rubles on the WhatsApp messenger, 15 million rubles on the social network Facebook, and 17 million rubles on the claim of Roskomnadzor. All three companies did not localize their databases of Russian users on the territory of the Russian Federation.
In 2020, Facebook and Twitter were already held accountable under Part 8 of Art. 13.11 Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation and were fined by the court for 4 million rubles each. Facebook paid the fine.
It should also be noted that on February 1, 2021, the law on self-control of social networks came into force, according to which they are obliged to promptly identify and block socially dangerous content.
