"Roskompozor!" – in St. Petersburg they protested against the blocking of Telegram
Less than a thousand people took part today in the action against the blocking of the Telegram messenger in St. Petersburg. This was reported by the Fontanka publication.
Judging by the live broadcast, the action was less radical than yesterday in Moscow. Participants chanted slogans against President Vladimir Putin and “Down with the Tsar!”, but not very persistently, greatly diluting the political slogans with other chants: “Roskompozor!”, “Gop! Come on, come on: unblock, allow,” “Give freedom of speech!”
Protestants tried to hold a rally on the Champ de Mars, but the defenders of St. Petersburg had already gathered there for their event. In addition, the “electronic resistance” did not have sufficiently powerful amplifying equipment. Throwing paper airplanes like in Moscow didn’t work either: it was raining. The police tried to persuade everyone to disperse, which the Protestants did.
The owner of Telegram, Pavel Durov, highly appreciated the action in St. Petersburg.
“I observe how, despite the pouring rain, a huge column is currently moving along Nevsky Prospect, chanting slogans in defense of the free Internet. Such a combination of natural conditions and people’s energy is possible only in St. Petersburg. Updated: at the moment the column is already on the Champ de Mars,” he wrote on his VKontakte page.
