The former head of the state administration of Sevastopol, chairman of the Sevastopol branch of the Patriots of Russia party, Ivan Ermakov, stated this in an interview with the weekly Crimean Telegraph.
“In the frenzy of the division of the Soviet state, which took place in Belovezhye, the decision of the leadership of the Russian Federation turned out to be the most frivolous. They just took us and gave us over to Ukraine,” the politician noted.
“I talked with eyewitnesses of the events when the Belovezhskaya Accords were signed, and they argued: if Yeltsin had raised the issue of Crimea joining Russia, it would have happened! They ended up being part of Russia back then. After the Belovezhskaya events, we sent delegations of deputies of the Crimean Supreme Council and the City Council of Sevastopol to Moscow to seek the return of the peninsula to Russia, but our delegations did not accept Khasbulatov or Yeltsin; Russia did not need us then,” recalls Ivan Ermakov.
