Russia will not allow Estonia to close the investigation into the death of the defender of the Bronze Soldier
The Russian Foreign Ministry is outraged by the progress of the investigation by Estonian law enforcement agencies into the murder of Russian citizen Dmitry Ganin, who was stabbed to death in 2007 during riots at the monument to the Soldier-Liberator
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova told reporters about this today.

“After 10 years of virtual inaction, Estonian law enforcement agencies are clearly moving the case towards closure under the pretext of the expiration of the statute of limitations. At the same time, requests from the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, which offers to provide legal assistance, are ignored. This approach is unacceptable for us. We demand that the Estonian side take comprehensive measures to identify those responsible for the death of a Russian citizen and bring them to justice,” Zakharova said, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The reason for the statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was the 10th anniversary of the tragic events in Tallinn. On April 27, 2007, the Estonian authorities dismantled the monument to the Soldier who liberated the city from the Nazi invaders, erected in Soviet times on Tõnismägi Hill in Tallinn. The monument was moved to the Military Cemetery. The remains of Soviet soldiers, previously located under the monument, were also reburied there. These events provoked riots in Tallinn and north-eastern Estonia, during which more than 160 people were injured and Russian citizen Ganin was killed.
