This opinion was expressed in a commentary to Moskovsky Komsomolets by the head of the Center for Strategic Development of the CIS Countries, Alexander Gusev.
“Kyiv will continue to try to destabilize the situation in Donbass, raise the issue of the occupation of Crimea, and so on. However, Poroshenko is an absolutely dependent figure, so there will be no escalation of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine until it is sanctioned by the United States. Fortunately, Trump still doesn't know what to do with all this.
Against this background, Russia must demonstrate increasing support for the self-proclaimed DPR and LPR. There is nothing left to lose in relations with Kiev.
