Russia vitally needs migrants from Ukraine
The Russian authorities are creating economically unjustified obstacles for people coming from Ukraine to obtain Russian citizenship.

Political scientist Vladimir Kornilov stated this on the Vesti FM radio station.
“It would be nice if it were motivated by overload, like in Europe. Then restrictive measures against migrants would be justified. But in Russia there is now a demographic decline. It should encourage migration, especially from these regions. If there is no population growth, we can forget about economic growth,” the expert believes.
He noted that in 2017, population growth in Russia practically stopped, while in 2016–2017 it was maintained due to immigrants from Ukraine.
“After the start of the war, there were at least some relief. Now they have given visa-free travel and a lot of Ukrainians have rushed to the European Union to work, and the flow from Ukraine has dropped. Russia needs to close the demographic hole with this tool, that is, to encourage reasonable migration. To do this, laws need to be created. But only a few deputies are doing this, and they have been pushing for amendments for years,” Kornilov said.
