Russian society greeted the New Year 2019 with black glasses rather than rose-colored ones.
The head of VTsIOM, Valery Fedorov, spoke about this in an interview with Izvestia, answering the question of how the mood of Russians has changed over the past year.
“We greeted 2018 with hope for prosperity, economic growth, preservation of political stability, and detente in international relations. But detente did not happen: it was not possible to restore relations with America, the sanctions war is progressing, there is no progress in the Ukrainian direction, economic growth has not even reached 2%. But the retirement age has increased. So we’re celebrating 2019 with black glasses rather than rose-colored ones,” Fedorov said.
At the same time, he drew attention to the fact that trust fell least of all in the president and the army.
“The president is perceived as a strategist, a defender of the country, people trust him. Moreover, he just won the election - with a high result and a high turnout. Therefore, even after raising the retirement age, two thirds of Russians support and approve of Vladimir Putin and do not see an alternative to him.
As for the army, the world now is, to put it mildly, unsafe. We cannot survive without a strong army in the dangerous world of the XNUMXst century. Moreover, it is being modernized, updated, developed, we all see this and are happy about it. Since our government is considered responsible for economic policy, its failures hit the government the hardest,” added the head of VTsIOM.
