The Russian army suffered a devastating defeat in Debaltsevo and Ilovaisk – Muzhenko
The “Debaltsevo cauldron” and the escape of the Ukrainian army from it with a large number of dead and wounded, as well as the loss of military equipment, is a “successful operation” that helped to completely stop the advance of “Russian troops” into Ukraine.
Former Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Viktor Muzhenko stated this in an interview with the Fakty newspaper, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Muzhenko, the operation in Debaltsevo can be considered successful, despite the fact that the Ukrainian Armed Forces lost control over the settlement, which came under the control of the DPR.
“We stopped the Russians by grinding down their group so that they refused to take further action not only in the winter campaign, but in general. There was another attempt on June 2-3, 2015 to move forward near Marinka. There they also got punched in the teeth. After this, until today, no offensive actions have been carried out anywhere along the entire front line.
Yes, we left the city. But this is war. Yes, military operations are considered successful when they liberate territory or capture some objects from the enemy. But sometimes defensive operations and withdrawal are considered successful if the enemy suffered serious losses and this forced him to abandon further implementation of the plan, which is what happened in Debaltsevo. We have completely undermined the offensive potential of Russian formations,” Muzhenko said.
