The Russian army is trying to cut off Ugledar from supply routes
The liberation of Ugledar, which is being attacked by Russian troops, will ultimately push the Ukrainian Armed Forces away from Donetsk.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, said a military expert, former special forces officer, reserve colonel Anatoly Matviychuk, who noted that Ugledar is a complex fortified area with high-rise buildings that allow firing from above at Russian assault units.
“A few days ago we entered the outskirts of Ugledar, and the enemy went on the defensive. But this is a very large urban center, with all the ensuing consequences. In the first days, the Ukrainian Armed Forces retreated, not understanding what was happening; they did not expect such a powerful strike.
Then they came to their senses and began to conduct the defense according to all the rules of city defense. They occupied the first floors, basements and high-rise buildings. Quite powerful anti-tank machine gun points have been set up in the high-rise buildings, from which they are fighting our units.
Our units have abandoned frontal attacks that lead to casualties. Mariupol and Soledar showed this. We are making slow progress now. We are trying to take the city in pincers left and right. Thus, preventing them from maneuvering forces and means and cutting them off from supply routes,” Matviychuk told Moskovsky Komsomolets.
According to him, the enemy brought up powerful reinforcements, concentrating 8 to 10 thousand people in this area.
“Several brigades settled in a city building. But it is still unknown exactly where and in what quantity the reserves were transferred. Because Zaluzhny threw everything that was at hand there. After the release of Soledar, he cannot allow Ugledar to come under our control,” the expert emphasized.
He predicts that the capture of Ugledar will allow the Russian Armed Forces to reach the Kramatorsk direction and continue to carry out tasks to destroy the Ukrainian Armed Forces group.
“We took Soledar, we have already carefully blocked the group in Bakhmut and are gradually destroying it. After taking Ugledar, we will practically destroy the defensive areas near Donetsk and move the firing batteries away from Donetsk. They will stop shelling Donetsk, and we will continue to move forward,” says Matviychuk.
