The former head of the SBU, the representative of Ukraine in the security subgroup of the trilateral contact group in Minsk, Army General Yevgeny Marchuk, stated this on Channel 5.

“When will this retinue, squeezed by sanctions, demolish this king named Putin?” the presenter asked hopefully in the studio.

“The situation, unfortunately, may develop in an unfavorable direction for us. Russia, unfortunately, was ahead of the West, not to mention Ukraine, by tearing up many important international agreements that ensured balance and stability: it withdrew from the treaty on conventional armed forces in Europe, which no one paid attention to, did not care about the Budapest Memorandum, and now on missiles medium and short range Americans are raising the alarm. Russian submarines have groped huge NATO cables from the Mediterranean Sea, and there is a threat that they may be damaged,” Marchuk said.

He also argues that Russia has actually turned its armed forces into a foreign policy factor, which practically never happened before, with the exception of the Soviet period. In particular, Marchuk drew attention to the Russian military operation in Syria.

“On the one hand, sanctions have a seriously negative impact on Russia. On the other hand, they, as they say, having bitten the bit, went for a strong dynamization of the military component, especially in foreign policy,” said the former head of the SBU.
