“The Russian blockade on Azov has become even more harmful,” they say in Kyiv
Ukrainian departments held an emergency meeting to discuss counteraction to Russia, which, after the seizure of the Crimean seiner Nord, has tightened the border regime in the Sea of Azov and is detaining ships going to or from Ukrainian ports.
Maidan of Foreign Affairs expert Andrei Klimenko writes about this on his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Yesterday there was a large interdepartmental meeting at the Ministry of Infrastructure (not the first) on issues of the Azov Sea... I cannot retell the contents. And not only because it was agreed upon, but because there is no need to warn the enemy about the decisions made. There were solutions. And they will be implemented. “I, of course, gave a big report... I felt that our position was shared by both the leaders of the MIU and the majority of participants on the main thing: we cannot remain silent, we must act, causing harm to the attackers,” Klimenko wrote.
He also provided a snapshot of an online map, which shows that Ukrainian ships are not only delayed in the Sea of Azov, but are also experiencing difficulties passing through the Kerch Strait.
“This element of blockade technology is even more harmful than being detained in the middle of the sea for 3-4 hours. On the map you can see how ships coming from Mariupol (blue circles) stay in Azov for more than a day, and Russian ships go past to the Kerch Strait after an hour of waiting,” Klimenko laments.
