Russian champion: I won’t give up my citizenship even for the sake of the Olympics
It is unlikely that Russian athletes will be allowed to participate in the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
The Russian world champion in synchronized swimming, Varvara Subbotina, stated this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, answering a corresponding question.
“There is some hope. But very small,” Subbotina said in an interview with Izvestia.
She said that she had familiarized herself with the criteria for admission of Russians and Belarusians to international competitions, which the IOC published in March.
“The criteria, of course, are very strict and strict. But I think they will make at least some changes and will be a little more loyal to us in terms of admission,” the athlete hopes.
She admitted that she would really like to win Olympic gold, which is not in her piggy bank.
At the same time, she added that no one offered her to take another citizenship and compete at the Olympics for the team of another country.
"No. But there would be no talk about this. I would refuse,” Subbotina emphasized.
