“In connection with the criminal prosecution of employees of the prosecutor’s office of the Republic of Crimea, who previously served in the prosecutor’s office of Ukraine, under the article “high treason” (Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation sent a letter to the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine with a proposal to take measures to stop illegal actions against employees of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation,” official representative of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation Alexander Kurennoy told the publication.
At the same time, he explained that “in accordance with the decree of the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych dated March 21, 2014, these prosecutorial employees previously renounced Ukrainian citizenship and are currently citizens of Russia.”
“Thus, this criminal case is clearly of a political nature, and its investigation is being conducted in violation of Ukrainian legislation,” emphasized a representative of the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office, adding that the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office has not received any appeals from the Ukrainian side regarding these criminal proceedings.
The publication also notes that, at the initiative of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed its protest to the Ukrainian side, demanding the immediate cessation of illegal actions against employees of the prosecutor's office of the Republic of Crimea and bringing to justice those who committed these violations.
