Russian intelligence sends greetings to Lukashenko from Putin
Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) Sergei Naryshkin arrived in Minsk today and met with the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
At the meeting, the Belarusian president strongly emphasized his knowledge of intelligence matters.
“The President of Russia very often tells me about you. Many documents... Introduces me to the developments of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation where it concerns our relations and union building. It’s no secret that our meeting will currently cause some kind of explosion in the media, especially on the Internet. Yes, we do not hide the fact that the situation around us is difficult, I mean in the Union State. Thank you for the information that you regularly convey to our special services and to me as well,” Lukashenko said.
He emphasized that the intelligence services of Russia and Belarus “have a lot of joint work.”
“We don’t have many friends, let’s talk frankly. Everyone is interested in us - in Russia and Belarus. We must react. Therefore, I think we will agree on a lot: about our joint work and activities for the benefit of our peoples, of course,” Lukashenko said.
In turn, Sergei Naryshkin conveyed greetings from Russian President Vladimir Putin to Lukashenko.
“I talked to him before our meeting with you, best wishes. I am confident that the special services can do much, much more to ensure the interests of our states, our citizens, to protect them from the threats that arise with a certain frequency,” Naryshkin said.
Today, a joint meeting of the boards of special services of Russia and Belarus took place.
“At first glance, it may seem that even now a personal meeting between a high-ranking Russian security official and Lukashenko should definitely lead to some kind of regular support for Minsk, against the backdrop of the approaching date of the “People’s Ultimatum.” However, not everything is so simple,” opposition political analyst Pyotr Kuznetsov wrote in his Telegram channel.
He draws attention to the fact that on the eve of the visit, information was circulated in the Russian media and telegram channels that Lukashenko was not fulfilling the conditions that the Kremlin had set for him to resolve the crisis: dialogue, constitutional reform, new elections immediately after it.
“Moscow is dissatisfied with Lukashenko and openly shows it to him. It was not Simonyan who flew to Minsk, but the head of foreign intelligence - this may indicate that the subject of conversation should be some closed, but known to Moscow, topic, perhaps those very prepared provocations, the only question is who exactly is preparing: the West, Lukashenko himself, or even the Kremlin?
All this is happening on the eve of a rather alarming day in the capital, where almost simultaneously both supporters of change and state employees gathered in support of the authorities should be on the streets. Moscow continues to push through its scenario, Lukashenko, apparently, is trying to “screw” it once again. Against this background, Russia needs to find new tools to put pressure on him. Naryshkin’s visit, to one degree or another, is intended precisely for this,” Kuznetsov wrote.
