Russian academics wrote the history of Ukraine
The RAS will present a unique collective work “History of Ukraine”, in which Russian scientists present their personal, unofficial point of view on various periods and events in Ukrainian history, said in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta the scientific director of the Institute of General History of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Chubaryan, who believes that the book will become a stimulus for serious dialogue between Russian and Ukrainian scientists.

Answering the question when the history of the Ukrainian people began, the scientist noted that “The Ancient Russian state was the foundation on the basis of which the civilizational foundations of three new states were formed: Ancient Rus', Ukraine and Belarus.”
At the same time, he admitted that there are a number of historical events that separate scientists from the two countries.
“There are not so many of them, these events, especially if we talk about academic scientists. But we do have disagreements, which relate, for example, to the origin of the ancient state,” the historian noted. – Some Ukrainian scientists, let’s say, underestimate the role of Ancient Rus'. There are scientists who question the fact of the baptism of the Ukrainian people in the form in which it is customary to present it in our country. We argue about this a lot, but, unfortunately, not publicly. That is why this book is so important, where a very well-reasoned position is expressed on controversial issues.”
Topics related to the Great Patriotic War and World War II turned out to be no less complex.
“On the Great Patriotic War, scientists from Russia, Ukraine and Belarus launched a joint project “Country on Fire,” said Alexander Chubaryan. – And the first volume, dedicated to 1941, has already been published. The second one is now ready. But Ukrainian scientists did not take part in its creation. We see that many of our colleagues’ assessments have changed.”
