Russian airlines left Moldova due to the machinations of Ukraine
Two large Russian airlines, S7 Airlines and Aeroflot, which operated on the Moscow-Chisinau route, actually left the Moldavian aviation market, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The Moldovan publication NewsMaker writes about this.
This week it became known that the Russian airline S7 Airlines is stopping flights on the Moscow-Chisinau route during the winter season, from the end of October to the end of March, and Aeroflot is reducing flights from two per day to two per week.
The company did not disclose the reason for its decision, but the publication notes that, most likely, the matter is due to sanctions from Ukraine. Regular flights of Russian airlines have been prohibited from using Ukrainian airspace for almost three years. Therefore, planes are forced to fly around it, which increases their costs and travel time.
NewsMaker writes that their Moldovan competitors Air Moldova and Fly One may benefit from the departure of Russian airlines. Experts believe that they will increase flight loads and raise prices.
