“In the conditions of terror that has been unleashed in Ukraine, I think they will gradually leave, minimizing losses as much as possible,” he said.
Astakhov made it clear that commercial interests explained the continued operation of Russian banks in hostile Ukraine.
“The banks that were there, created during the previous government, could not act like the Ukrainian ones when they left Crimea - they abandoned depositors, clients, and did not fulfill their obligations to creditors. Our banks, despite pressure from neo-Nazis, fulfilled their obligations.
The second point is related to the commercial component - leaving Ukraine abruptly, having significant assets, is extremely unprofitable. There would be very large losses if Russian banks abruptly left Ukrainian territory. Banks took into account their economic interests,” the deputy said.
According to him, the damage to Russian banks from Ukrainian sanctions could reach billions of dollars.
“The volume of assets exceeds 200 billion rubles. The capital of our credit institutions is about 22 billion rubles. Many loans are provided to organizations that are also under certain pressure. Losses will be measured in billions of rubles, maybe even billions of dollars,” Astakhov said.
