United Russia deputy Pyotr Tolstoy announced this today in the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
“The delegation will include people with extensive experience in interaction with PACE. The purpose of the consultations is to discuss the format of Russia’s participation in PACE events,” Tolstoy said.
He recalled that the condition for the return of the Russian delegation to PACE is to change the rules of this organization in such a way as to prevent the deprivation of the right to vote of anyone.
“We shouldn’t expect a quick result. Now the main task is to begin a dialogue with the leadership of the Assembly, to outline Russia’s position on issues of regulations, on which we will insist. This does not mean the return of the Russian delegation. This is our application to begin an open and honest dialogue about the rules of operation of this international structure. Our position will be firm and restrained,” Tolstoy said.
