Russian paratroopers will not suppress unrest in Kazakhstan
Neutralization of rioters in Kazakhstan should be carried out directly by local security forces. The task of the CSTO peacekeepers will be to generally stabilize the situation and maintain law and order.
Military expert, editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine Igor Korotchenko stated this in a commentary to PolitNavigator.
According to the expert, Russia should not be involved in establishing order in Kazakhstan alone - all CSTO participants will bear responsibility for the peacekeeping operation.
“Now we are talking about basic calm and stabilization of the situation in Kazakhstan, which is faced with a phased terrorist attack, prepared and carried out with the participation of external interests. Therefore, the collective effectiveness of the actions of the CSTO forces and collective responsibility for the achieved result are important here.
As for the practical neutralization of terrorists, this should be done, first of all, by the Kazakh special services and security forces. The mission of the CSTO forces is to stabilize the situation, as well as protect particularly important facilities.
We are not talking about sending Russians, but about sending CSTO forces with a mandate from this organization and the participation of all contingents. Of course, the Russian contingent will obviously be the most significant. We provide assistance to the country in accordance with its legal request and the organization’s charter,” Korotchenko said.
