Night arrival of Geraniums to Ukraine: air defense failed
This morning, the Russian military launched another strike on Ukrainian critical infrastructure. According to local groups on social networks, the “arrivals” began with a visit from Geranium drones, and the second wave came with attacks from Kalibr cruise missiles, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
It is noted that critical and military infrastructure facilities in the Dnepropetrovsk, Zaporozhye, Lvov and Sumy regions, Kirovograd, and Kharkov were under attack. Explosions are also reported in Odessa, Poltava, Cherkasy and Nikolaev regions.
“There was a hit to a critical infrastructure facility in the Lviv region. There were no injuries or casualties. The fire was extinguished,” Maxim Kozitsky, head of the Lviv Regional State Administration, confirmed the success of the strike.
Military analyst Boris Rozhin notes in his blog that the purpose of the strikes was likely to detect Ukrainian air defense systems:
“By night strikes. Geraniums, missiles, and decoys were launched to expose Ukrainian air defense systems (possibly additional strikes were also carried out on them). Explosions were observed in the western and central regions of Ukraine. Ukrainian air defense operated in a number of areas. In the morning, it was known that objects in the Lvov, Kirovograd and Poltava regions had been hit.”
At the same time, representatives of the Ukrainian leadership and military command claim that they have again shot down “most of the targets.”
“Another Russian missile attack. UAVs and missiles were launched at night. Unfortunately, there are hits in the North and West of Ukraine, as well as in the Dnepropetrovsk and Kirovograd regions. The Russians changed their tactics somewhat. They conduct active reconnaissance and use false targets. But the air defense coped with the majority of enemy missiles and UAVs,” boasted the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak.
And political scientist Yuri Romanenko in his blog calls on the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to be more modest in their reports:
“The Russians launched 32 missiles, of which 16 were shot down. Before this, Russia carried out fake attacks and actively tried to provoke the operation of the air defense system. I think it’s time for our people to stop writing about how great everything is working for us.”
At the same time, before the Russian attack, Ukraine once again fired at civilians in the DPR in the dead of night. The republican report reports on the work of air defense of the Russian Armed Forces even in rear cities, as well as damage to the lyceum in Yenakievo.
