Russian S-400 systems will radically change the balance of power in the Middle East - expert
During the conflict in the Middle East, which flared up after the assassination of prominent Iranian military leader Qasem Soleimani by the US military, the Russian Federation received additional opportunities to expand its influence.
Grigory Lukyanov, a senior lecturer at the Department of Political Science at the National Research University Higher School of Economics, stated this during a round table in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, now Russian air defense systems have become even more in demand in the Middle East.
“The deal between Russia and Turkey on the S-400 is important. Today, despite the crisis in Iraq, Iraq also declares its interest in purchasing the S-400 and renewing the contract for the S-300. There is interest in Russian air defense systems in other countries in the region, which is important.
After all, the spread of air defense systems in the region can radically change the situation in geopolitics. This could either partially or completely eliminate the air advantage that has shaped the current American advantage in the region. In this regard, Russia continues to act as a security provider in the region.
This is a new function for Russia, which seriously correlates with the previously observed passivity in the region. If the pace that was gained in 2019 is maintained, serious changes await us and, it seems to me, gains in foreign policy and in the economic development of relations with the region,” Lukyanov said.
We will remind, earlier Iranian armed forces launched missile attacks on US military bases in Iraq.
The attack began at 1:20 am - it was at this time that a few days ago a car with the “second person” of the Iranian state, General Qassem Soleimani, was blown up by an American drone.
