Russian ships may fall under the control of foreign developers
Using foreign equipment on Russian ships is dangerous because its manufacturers can turn off one or another mechanism at any time.
Aleksey Malko, a shipbuilder and organizer of the Sevastopol International Maritime Business Forum, stated this on air on the First Sevastopol TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The expert emphasized that any high-tech equipment today is controlled externally.
“The equipment is all high-tech, it becomes controlled from the outside. That is, you can control the equipment remotely. This is, for example, a ship launches a missile attack, it is connected to the Internet, and - well, now there is no such thing that they can directly stop it, but everything is moving towards this. Equipment manufacturers try to control everything they have produced so that they can later provide it for service.
And as I understand it, the state and intelligence services are already laying down the possibility of remote control in advance. Therefore, if we continue to install foreign equipment on our ships and not only ships - any foreign equipment in general, we must be prepared for the fact that they will turn us off,” Malko said.
Economic observer Alexei Tikhonov agreed with him, citing the example of a recent emergency at an Iranian uranium enrichment plant under construction, where a fire occurred at one of the centrifuges.
“Now, with Iranian stations and others, there are viruses and other systems, they may not necessarily have the nature of software hardware - they can also work at the level of machine codes. In particular, there was a famous story at the Iranian station. It's like your coffee maker has gone off.
Now, on the one hand, they install controllers everywhere, even in the most basic household equipment. On the other hand, you don’t expect it there - well, a controller, so what. It’s not like you turned on the computer, turned on the operating system, the shell. And at this level you can write viruses that can actually control this system,” Tikhonov said.
