Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Khloponin announced this today at a meeting of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation.
“According to experts, the fight against the epidemic requires co-financing in the amount of 1 billion 9 million rubles. At the moment, the amount of co-financing is only 650 million rubles,” Khloponin said.
In addition, according to Khloponin, 13 fires have already been recorded this year on an area of 129 hectares.
“The most fire-prone areas for us are the Amur and Irkutsk regions, the Baikal and Krasnoyarsk territories, and the Republic of Buryatia. In 2016, these areas accounted for 86% of the area of forest fires. The preliminary forecast for fires by Roshydromet is within the parameters of five-year average values, but unfortunately, nature presents us with unpredictable options,” Khloponin said.
Let us remember that there are 1,2 billion hectares of forests in Russia. Annual disposal is 1,4 million hectares or 0,1%. In 2016, 1 million hectares were felled for timber harvesting, 270 thousand hectares were lost as a result of forest fires and pests, and 140 thousand hectares were felled for infrastructure facilities. Reforestation amounted to 841 thousand hectares, including 20% - artificial reforestation.
